San Bernardino County residents enjoy a sunny climate and tem-
perate weather, and most parts of the county are just a short drive
from the local mountains or deserts, which feature the grandeur of
such locations as Joshua Tree National Park and the San Bernardino
National Forest. Hiking, sightseeing and off-road vehicle opportu-
nities are abundant in the deserts of San Bernardino County, as are
recreational opportunities such as Calico Ghost Town or boating on
the Colorado River. A collection of state, county regional and local
community parks also offer avenues for outdoor enjoyment.
This geographic diversity makes it possible to enjoy world-class rock
climbing in the morning and mix it up with some of the sport's top
snowboarders in the afternoon. You can go fishing at a mountain
lake on a Saturday and attend a NASCAR race on a Sunday or pick
apples at a decades-old orchard in the fall and attend an interna-
tional film festival a few months later. Much of the county's intense
natural beauty has been featured in Hollywood films and television
shows. And San Bernardino County is a short drive from the beaches
of neighboring Orange and Los Angeles counties without the
staggering home prices and office rents.
San Bernardino County has staked its growth and prosperity on its
ability to provide increasingly diverse options for enjoying the arts,
entertainment and family recreation. Symphony orchestras, live the-
ater and intriguing museums fuel the county's expanding cultural
life. Partnerships with local colleges and universities give county res-
idents access to music, drama, dance and other cultural offerings at
little or no cost. This engaging arts community not only provides
cultural enrichment for county residents; it also improves the over-
all quality of life in San Bernardino County.
