Many businesses in San Bernardino County report that they started here or relocated here specifically because the transportation system allows them quick and convenient access to the Southwestern and Pacific Northwest regions of the United States, as well as the massive Southern California market. Many of the workers who fuel the county's economy were educated right here at home at some of the region's colleges and universities, in- cluding California State University, San Bernardino; the University of Redlands; and, nearby, the University of California, Riverside. Empire region that includes San Bernardino County retains the po- tential to drive the state's economy, and that of Southern California, to new heights. Regional economic forecasts have predicted that the region will add more than a million people in the next few years, and many of those new residents will make their homes in San Bernardino County. That expected growth, as well as San Bernardino County's ability to provide businesses with an affordable entry point into the entire West Coast, means the county's long-term economic prospects are bright.
